What size basketball to choose?

The size of the basketball varies depending on whether you are a man, woman, or child. Indeed, for men, a size 7 is used.

For women, a size 6 is recommended, and for children under 12 years old, a ball in size 3 to 5 is advised.

It's important to understand that the higher the size, the larger the circumference and weight. Until they are 12 years old, you will need to adapt to your child's needs.

The different sizes of a basketball:

Size 1: from 3 years old

Size 3: from 4 to 6 years old

Size 5: from 7 to 12 years old

Size 6: for Juniors from 12 years old and women

Size 7: for men.

Choosing an indoor or outdoor ball? What’s the difference?

There are two types of balls to suit different surfaces for playing basketball. Indeed, you can play indoors “indoor” or outdoors “outdoor”, and these different labels, often printed on the ball, indicate whether the ball is intended for gym use or outdoor play.

The difference between an indoor ball and an outdoor ball is that the covering will typically be rubber for outdoor use and leather for indoor, offering a better feel for the ball.

However, leather is less durable and grippy than rubber. That said, there are also hybrid leather balls that are much more robust, suitable for both indoor and outdoor basketball!

How to choose your basketball?

Now that you know your ball size and the surface you'll be playing on (outdoors or indoors), all that's left is to decide between the different brands!

The ball brands vary by league. One well-known brand is undoubtedly Spalding, as it has been the official supplier for the NBA and WNBA for several years.

However, in 2021, it will be the brand Wilson that provides equipment for players in the prestigious NBA and WNBA leagues. Just like Spalding, Wilson offers balls for all types of budgets and playing styles.

Molten is also one of the prestigious basketball brands, providing the official balls for FIBA (International Basketball Federation).

We also offer balls from the brand Nike. Although not originally a pioneer in basketball ball manufacturing, over time it has managed to establish itself and compete with giants like Spalding and Wilson.
